An Autumn Rainy Day (and a bit of freewriting)

Live
Freewriting: also known as stream of consciousness writing. It is the practice of writing down the thoughts without stopping, and without regard for spelling, grammar, or any of the usual rules for writing *. I love freewriting, and for me it is one of the most effective de-stressing and relaxation methods. I carry an A5 book and a pen with me all the time, whenever I am bored or feel a bit stressed or even very happy about something, I write everything that comes to my mind. I doodle too, draw random pictures in the same book. It is my emotional outlet. Over the years, I have over three A5 size books. It has always been amusing for me to read what I wrote or drew at a later time. So here is a bit…

MozFest: nerdification in progress…

MozFest: nerdification in progress…

Live, Travel
I wanted a lazy Sunday, but Cotton's daddy wanted to drag me to the Mozilla Festival. Not interested. Then he told me there would be around-the-clock flat white, I was sold. Fitting In Then the first problem came about. What do people wear at MozFest? I have no tech related clothes! Or, more correctly, what is tech related wardrobe?! In the end, I opted for smart casual. You can never go wrong wearing all black, right? Well, the all black ended up being the best choice I made, offering a blank canvas to stick all the stickers on myself. This is the first time I have been to a congress of technology. Previously all the conferences I have been to were biology related, which can be quite serious. I did…

Boyfriend went to the Google Cloud Conference, and all I got was a “Cardboard Box”

Boyfriend went to the Google Cloud Conference, and all I got was a “Cardboard Box”

Cotton, Girl in Tech, Live
‘What is this? Get it out of my sight’, seeing the rectangular cardboard box on top of the shoe cabinet, this is the first thing that came out of my mouth. ‘Oh, it’s for you. It is the google VR’. I clumsily and suspiciously opened up the box, and unfolded it into the goggle shape. ‘There is nothing here, it doesn’t work…’ Oh dear, sometimes, I do feel sorry for my techie boyfriend who has such a technology retarded girlfriend. I did not know I was suppose to download an app on the smart phone, then insert the phone into the box. Never mind, I quickly lost my interest in this ‘boring’ little item. As having a perpetual habit of throwing things out and tidying things up, I was waiting to…

The Peony Pavilion: love in life and death

The Peony Pavilion: love in life and death

Art, Live, London
"It's so beautiful, I am gonna cry." Quoting from my friend, whom I went with to Kunqu opera, the Peony Pavilion. What she said pretty much summed it up. It was simply stunning. This is the second time The Peony Pavilion-Young lover's edition took place in London, this time in the Troxy. It is an adaption of Tanxianzu's (a great Chinese playwright of the 16th century) opera, by the Taiwanese writer Bai Xianyong. 55 scenes  distilled into 9 hours, spreading over three nights. It was a modern take of the traditional opera, divided into three books: Love in Dream, Love in Death and Love on Earth. Synopsis: Du Liniang, the sixteen-year-old daughter of Nan'an governor was lured by the beautiful spring, so took a stroll in the garden with her…

Kat Von D: a makeup brand with attitude

Kat Von D: a makeup brand with attitude

Art, Live, London
It would not be overrating to hail her as the Queen of Tattoo. As I write this post now, I hesitate whether to tagline the post as 'embrace your inner Goth', but then decided not to. If I only state Kat Von D as a iconic symbol of Goth, I couldn't be more wrong. She is more than that, her artistic endeavours showed attitude and determination. Katherine Von Drachenberg (Kat Von D) is one of the most famous tattoo artists in America, and left her marks on numerous celebrities such Lady Gaga and Beyoncé. Saying that she inked half of Hollywood wouldn't be an exaggeration. Going from tattoo to makeup artistry is an obvious route, as they share so many similarities artistically. After eight years, finally, Kat has launched her line of products in the UK,…

Plot Twist: How I became Cotton’s Mummy

Plot Twist: How I became Cotton’s Mummy

Cotton, Live
This is a story of how I fell in love and a story of how I became a 'mummy' unexpectedly… A step forward Whilst the world is spinning steadily, we are rushing through life, which is why my blog was neglected. Last year this time, my boyfriend decided to sacrifice his cushy countryside lifestyle, swapping for an expensive and hectic life in London to be with me. Although I have always been a huge fan of London, and quoting Samuel Johnsons’ famous verse repetitively, my the other half does not share the same sentiment. It was a big step we took, moving into a flat together. However finding an ideal one proved to be a huge challenge, rendering us basically homeless for three months last year. We took on a…
