Savoy Grill: a birthday worth remembering

Savoy Grill: a birthday worth remembering

Eat, Fine Dining
I like surprises, but boyfriend really can't do one. He was so excited about the place. He made me guess, and as a result I guessed Gordon Ramsay's restaurant on the first go. Never mind, he can keep on trying. Do you know on entering the Savoy Court , people have to drive on the right. It is the only road in the UK where this is the case. This is because traditionally, ladies sat behind the chauffeur, so upon arrival, it would allow the ladies to exist immediately and stylishly into the hotel. Interestingly, there was even an act issued by the parliament granting Savoy Hotel the permission of people driving on the right.  I ordered veal, whereas the boyfriend chose mixed grill. I think I made a better…

Japan Matsuri: explore Japanese Culture

Japan Matsuri: explore Japanese Culture

Eat, Street Food
We are the generation that grew up with Japanese culture, with Doraemon teaching us about friendship, Sailor Moon showing us that girls can be strong too, and of course there are the cute Pokemons. In fact, I loved the manga and anime so much, I aspired to be a manga artist when I was a child. When slightly older, the love for these cartoons remained as childhood memories. Yet, I started to appreciate the more traditional aspects of Japan: Chado (tea ceremony), Ikebana (flower arrangement), Zen Buddhism... The list goes on. Despite these traditional things, Japan never lost its touch to cuteness, or the 'kawaiiness'.   It appears things from Japan are often made with great care and precision. I remember, when I visited Japan three years ago, how much I…

Itadaki Zen: Vegan+Japanese, is that even possible?

Eat, Organic, Vegetarian
Follow my blog with Bloglovin  Met up with a friend for dinner, who has recently become a vegetarian. I fully support vegetarianism. It is healthy and environmentally friendly. For me, giving up seafood and chicken is still quite a challenge, but I do try to eat vegetarian food more often. We headed down to Itadazaki Zen in King's Cross, which serves vegan, organic Japanese cuisine only. Wait a sec, Japanese food as vegan, is that even possible? Surely, you can't have vegetarian sashimi! So I was in for a surprise...   The challenge of making everything vegetarian requires quite a bit of imagination, as there is limited choice of protein source. As Japan is an island surrounded by the sea, naturally, Japanese cuisine relies hugely on fish. That's why sushi with various types…

Eneko—My Little Dear

Eneko—My Little Dear

Eat, Fine Dining
New kid in town: a modern Basque restaurant headed by chef Edurne Martin Delgado (Bravo for a female head chef), who has worked alongside to the famous Eneko Atxa, the three Michelin star chef of Azurmendi in Bilbao. With the soft launch of their first month of opening, the food was offered at 50% for the whole of August. Naturally, it became our dinning spot for the August bank holiday weekend. It was the probably the earliest dinner I have ever had, due to the result of overbooking, we only managed to book a table for 5pm.   I was rather surprised by their modern and slightly oriental décor. It shouted nothing of extravagance yet still signaled quality. I was not so sure of their choice of orchids as the…
