Oxbo Bankside: somewhere to chill tonight?

Oxbo Bankside: somewhere to chill tonight?

Oxbo situates near Waterloo, a modern British restaurant as a part of Hilton. We chose this place for a send off dinner for my cousin, who is now pursuing a media career in China. This place is beautifully decorated with traditional British ornaments, but with a modern twist. This was my favourite, swordfish drenched in champaign and topped with some fresh salad, full of freshness. The food was quite light, but still full of flavour. They were the heart warming kind of dishes. We had a set menu, three courses and a glass of prosecco, for £25. It was quite a bargain. They have a wide range of wine collections. Just take your pick, you are bound to find your favourite. It was peaceful night, and the place was great for…

Andrew Edmunds: experiencing Soho the way it supposed to be

Andrew Edmunds: experiencing Soho the way it supposed to be

Eat, Fine Dining
Happy birthday Cotton's Daddy. Finally hitting that big 30. We are all very proud of you, and keep up with it. This is big, isn't it? That's like a third of one's life. In that case, it couldn't be more appropriate to dine in Andrew Edmunds which also happens to be around for 30 years, since its establishment in 1986. This is one of the last remanence of the 'old soho', the way it supposed to be: dim light, cozy setting, dark wood furnitures, and a touch of that quintessential Englishness. Having dinned in so many artisan and Micheline starred restaurants. I have gotten a bit bored with the same style, where everything just looked so perfect, as if straight out of a picture. I have been longing for dishes that…

Villandry: Christmas preview with wine on tap

Villandry: Christmas preview with wine on tap

Eat, Fine Dining
My friend received an invitation for Villandry's Christmas food sampling, and I was her plus one. I have been to Villandry St Jame's branch with the girls just couple of months ago for brunch and was not overly impressed by the decor or the food. Although slightly weary about this invitation, the Great Portland Street branch certainly redeemed itself. There, we walked through the colourful flowers in the hallway, and entered into the red room which sang to me modern French. We were offered a glass of bubblies as soon as we arrived, then we just happily settled down into the ambiance. What followed were those delicately made canapes, ranging from crispy duck, salmon, mushroom...  Perfect assortment of party finger food. Great service and wonderful sense of humours from the…

Savoy Grill: a birthday worth remembering

Savoy Grill: a birthday worth remembering

I like surprises, but boyfriend really can't do one. He was so excited about the place. He made me guess, and as a result I guessed Gordon Ramsay's restaurant on the first go. Never mind, he can keep on trying. Do you know on entering the Savoy Court , people have to drive on the right. It is the only road in the UK where this is the case. This is because traditionally, ladies sat behind the chauffeur, so upon arrival, it would allow the ladies to exist immediately and stylishly into the hotel. Interestingly, there was even an act issued by the parliament granting Savoy Hotel the permission of people driving on the right.  I ordered veal, whereas the boyfriend chose mixed grill. I think I made a better…

Eneko—My Little Dear

Eneko—My Little Dear

Eat, Fine Dining
New kid in town: a modern Basque restaurant headed by chef Edurne Martin Delgado (Bravo for a female head chef), who has worked alongside to the famous Eneko Atxa, the three Michelin star chef of Azurmendi in Bilbao. With the soft launch of their first month of opening, the food was offered at 50% for the whole of August. Naturally, it became our dinning spot for the August bank holiday weekend. It was the probably the earliest dinner I have ever had, due to the result of overbooking, we only managed to book a table for 5pm.   I was rather surprised by their modern and slightly oriental décor. It shouted nothing of extravagance yet still signaled quality. I was not so sure of their choice of orchids as the…
