Dogs+Shakes: ‘move over, burgers!’

Dogs+Shakes: ‘move over, burgers!’

Eat, London, Street Food
Move over burgers, hot dogs are coming! Remember how we have such a craze for gourmet burgers. Apparently, they are no longer 'hip'. It is now all about hot dogs.  Stratford is a spot we frequent. Apart from shopping, we hit Dogs + Shakes for lunch. It is a food van located in Stratford Westfield. Besides hotdogs, we were also spoiled for milkshake choices. We went for a Ranch dog and a Nacho dog. Boyfriend was very skeptical about my Nacho dog at the beginning, He thought it was weird to have nachos in a hotdog. How wrong he was! The nachos added crunchiness, which complemented beautifully to other parts of the hog dog. The ranch dog has the classic sauerkraut. It reminded us of Germany. So here is what…

Backpacking through Europe Part 8: Nuremburg

Backpacking through Europe Part 8: Nuremburg

Backpacking through Europe, Travel
Nuremberg: a city full of history and colours Nuremberg was not in the plan. Since I liked Frankfurt so much, boyfriend suggested Nuremberg as a detour, which is another city heavily influence by Franconian culture. Also, Nuremberg has a castle! Somewhere along this Europe trip, it seems to became a tour of German cathedrals and churches. Nuremberg also has a church of gothic style, St. Lorenz. Hospice of the Holy Spirit Going up the castle Panoramic view from top of the castle Weißgerbergasse This little street is probably one of the most colourful streets I have ever set my foot on. Backpacking through Europe Part 7: Frankfurt

Backpacking through Europe, Travel
Frankfurt is the financial centre of Germany, if not, of Europe. It is the fifth largest German city, and the site of many global corporate head quarters. Well, many things happen in this city: book fair, trade show, stock exchange... In a way, it is like Canary Wharf, only many times bigger. The Altstadt Yet, the city centre of Frankfurt, known as the altstadt (literally means old district). It has architectures quite the contrary to those shiny sky scrappers often portrayed by the typical financial centres. When I saw the square, surrounded by the colourful buildings, I fell in love with Frankfurt immediately. How cool is this. The door knock is in the shape of a pretzel. I guess, that makes the door handle resembling to a frankfurter sausage. The…

Backpacking through Europe Part 6: Cologne

Backpacking through Europe Part 6: Cologne

Art, Backpacking through Europe, Travel
Place Boyfriend was very excited about Germany, or what he calls, the 'Land of Sausages'.  I was rather neutral about it. They are just sausages. For that, I was told, 'whoever says they are just sausages, never had the proper ones.' Out of our backpacking trip, we stayed in Germany the longest period. The first stop was Cologne, the cultural capital and fourth largest city of Germany. Upon our arrival at the Cologne main station, or the 'Köln Hauptbahnhof', the first thing that appeared in front us was the Cologne Cathedral, the Medieval Gothic Architecture. It is the tallest twin spired church in the world, at 157m.Its magnificence can only be felt if you are there physically. Looking up from the bottom, I felt rather small. Even as a non-religious…
