Brick Lane: hot curry for the cold weather

Brick Lane: hot curry for the cold weather

Eat
A rare occasion for London to snow, although you could hardly call it so, more like a sleet. It was 10th February, the last day of the Chinese New Year celebration. That's right, when there are twelve days of Christmas in the West, there are the fifteen days of Chinese New Year. The weather was so cold and wet, calling for some hot curry at the Brick Lane. Although I have been in London for six years, I only set my foot at the Brick Lane twice; once for the London Coffee Festival, and the other time for some clothes shopping. I never dinned there. Whitechapel has always been my go-to place whenever I fancied some Indian food. According to my boyfriend, who frequented Brick Lane when he was a student,…

London: loneliness among the crowd

London: loneliness among the crowd

Live
Six years, I have been living in this magical city. I have transformed from a country bumpkin to somewhat of a Londoner. Food, theatres, drinks and fashion, London has so much to offer, and endless things to explore. London, so many people, so many things to do, so diverse. Yet, it was not just once I heard someone telling me that they felt lonely. I was the same, there was a period, I felt so suffocated by the stuffiness of London: overcrowded underground, overhyped hipster culture and sky-high rental price. Me too, desired to get out of London. So many people, yet so lonely. That was the feeling. It was only until recently, I finally found my emotional anchor, and fell in love with London, head over heels again. The…

Aldo Valentine’s Preview & Five Guys

Aldo Valentine's Preview It's that time of the year again, so much love in the air... We were invited to Aldo Valentine's preview. I have always been in love with Aldo's stylish shoes. In fact two of my favourite pairs were from there. This year, Aldo introduces the Love to Love collection for the upcoming Valentine's day, featuring the red lips on high heels, perfect for the special occasion. If this design is too daring for you, There are other colours to pick from, but seriously, aren't they gorgeous. As we browsed the shoes at this special VIP event, every now and then, some food and prosecco circulate around. Shoes always go with bags. These two designs, with the strong colour and the delicate emboidery, caught my eyes. That hint…

Franco Manca: rising on the slow side

Franco Manca: rising on the slow side

Eat
I first came across Franco Manca 3 years ago, when they opened their branch on Tottenham Court Road. It was quite a craze then. My friends and I had to try the pizzas. The pizzeria boasted slow rising sourdough, cooked over a wood fired oven. The pizzas were reasonably priced at around £6, and there was the homemade lemonade. I only remembered that I was not so overly impressed by the pizza, as the pastry was somewhat chewy. Year later, Franco Manca opened their branch at Belsize Park. I gave the sourdough pizzas another try. I don't know what has changed, the food or me, this time I loved the pizzas. I have always been impressed by its simple and minimalist menus. Franco Manca was offering a set menu: pizza,…
